If I see something interesting, I shoot from the driver's seat or jump out & set up the tripod for a quick click. It's the drive-by life of a photographer on the move. Welcome to my world.

Night Life in Columbia, Tennessee
I've been thinking a lot about night photography recently. I don't like using a flash so that means a tripod and long exposure times with small aperatures. Here's a couple photos.
The first is the Northway Coin Laundry, 113 Nashville Hwy, south of the Kroger. The second is Jumbo House, 1410 Nashville Hwy, an always-busy hamburger joint.

Polk Presidential Hall in Columbia, Tennessee
The Polk Presidential Hall at 810 S High Street in Columbia, Tennessee was built in 1882, 33 years after the death of our 11th President, James K. Polk.
It has a spire with dormers and a weather vane.
The building is not wide but it's long.
Another shot of this impressive, front door.

James K. Polk Ancestral Home in Columbia, Tennessee
I was on the west side of Nashville Hwy in Columbia, Tennessee photographing a few of the churches, when I happened across the ancestral home of James K. Polk, our 11th President of the United States.
Below is the straight on view from 7th Street.
I walked around the courtyard and took a few photos.
This coming summer I'd like to take a tour of the inside.
You can find some history, tour information and gifts at the President James K. Polk Home & Museum website > www.jameskpolk.com. They even sell a James K. Polk bobblehead!
You can watch a C-SPAN tour of the James K. Polk Ancestral Home - www.c-span.org/video/?303153-1/james-k-polk-ancestral-home
Here's an interesting view from the courtyard.

More from After the rain in Columbia, TN
The backs of buildings are many times far more interesting than the fronts they present to us. You see the hidden world these buildings keep to themselves. The deep, dark secrets they don't want you to know.
So I took this photo and it turned out pretty good. But as I'm doing the post-processing, I realize something. Living most of my life in gritty Detroit, what I saw in this photo was surprising. Do you see it?
There's no trash, no over-filled dumpster. That fence itself would catch paper and fast food wrappings as they blew through the parking lot. But no litter. It's clean in Columbia, Tennessee.
Here's another shot taken 90 degrees from the first.

After the rain in Columbia, TN
The rain broke for a couple hours so I drove around Columbia, TN.
This is the Columbia Motor Alley, east of Nashville Hwy and a couple blocks south of the Maury County Courthouse.
And just to the left is the Texaco Star.
I crossed over to the west side of Nashville Hwy. Here's a couple views of a home with some interesting walls.
Looking up at a church.
And a beautiful, stone chimney on the side of this home.

Indian Village, Detroit
I was looking through some photos I took in Indian Village, Detroit back in 2012. I never uploaded them to my old site Prior to Before - a photoblog of Detroit.
Indian Village is an upscale neighborhood of historic homes close to downtown Detroit and the Detroit River. One of these houses is on Seminole, the other is on Iroquois.
A couple interesting homes with nice color.

Close to sunset in Middle Tennessee
A couple photos taken close to sunset that show some nice color.
The 1st is the trailer park I live in that's nicely framed between the rough grass on a hill and the clouds above.
The 2nd is just up the road then off into a manufacturing area.

A quick trip to Nashville
I drove up to Nashville today to scout locations. I only took a few photos out the windows.
Here's a shot as I came up to the edge of the Honky Tonk Highway in downtown Nashville. Early afternoon on Saturday, the street was jammed.
Here's a bouncer at Legends Corner eyeballing me while I'm waiting for the light to change. I'm not as big as him but I stare meaner.
